I took my first graphic design course in 1993 when I was in the seventh grade. It was my favorite class. I would often stay after school to work on my designs. My instructor spent a lot of time teaching about design concepts and how to employ them using Photoshop. In the eighth grade my teacher entered one of my projects into a contest at the Minnesota state fair. It was for high school students, but somehow he managed to get my design in and I won second place. I continued on my graphic design path and by the time I was in the twelfth grade I was interning at a local newspaper.
After high school I moved to Eureka, California to play football and work on my multi media degree. I enjoyed what I was doing but I wanted more adventure, so in 2001 I decided to join the Air Force. I was stationed in Tucson Arizona as a crew chief on A-10s. Our squadron got deployed to Kuwait, Qatar, and Afghanistan. I spent six months overseas it was one of the most exciting times of my life. I was given the silver diamond award by our first sergeant for going above and beyond the call of duty. Only two of those awards were given out on that deployment. Just before my second deployment, I was transferred to bit burg Germany. I lived there for six months, before my tour of duty was up. I decided not to re-enlist and instead move back to Minnesota to become a realtor.
Although I was very successful as a realtor, my heart was just not in it. So I decided to go back to school and focus on my education & design work. That’s what brought me back out to southern California.
